About
Once cited as one of the most dangerous neighbourhoods on the continent, Comuna 13 rebuilt itself around the outdoor escalators installed in 2011 and the murals painted over the walls beside them, and a local guide who grew up here makes the difference between seeing paint and understanding what it commemorates. Breakdancers and rap artists perform along the route most afternoons, and the hip hop collectives that lead many tours are the same young residents the transformation is actually about. Go with a guide rather than alone, the context is the reason this is worth doing at all.
